Fund an SSDA Dance Scholarship
A critical element to the success of the South Shore Dance Alliance mission is the availability of dance scholarships for those students who exemplify the tenets of our dance program philosophy and who may not have the financial resources to afford our dance training.
Over the past six years, we have provided scholarship assistance to more than 90 young dancers, and we have facilitated auditions and scholarships for numerous students into other prestigious dance programs around the country.
SSDA looks for the following traits in selecting scholarship recipients:
• Dance aptitude and ability
• A demonstrated work ethic and determination to succeed
• Strong academics, understanding of the importance of academic success in relation to success as a dancer, and a willingness to work for improvement in any core academic areas which are lacking
• Financial need
Help a deserving young dancer by funding an SSDA scholarship. Donate online (see above), via a donation form, or contact us directly at 219-427-0188 or via email.

Spring, 2009: South Shore Dance Alliance receives grant funding from Legacy Foundation and Miller Community Fund
The South Shore Dance Alliance has been awarded a $10,000 project grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Donor Advised Fund administered by the Legacy Foundation and a $1,500 project grant from the Miller Community Fund. These grant funds were used to renovate the third and largest of three dance studio spaces (see photo below) in the new South Shore Centre for the Arts facility located at the former Miller School building at 665 N. Lake Street in Gary’s Miller community.
Before
“These grants help us take a big step forward in the development of our dance studio and performance program,” stated South Shore Dance Alliance artistic director Larry Brewer. “We’ve always been about providing deserving young dancers in the NW Indiana region the opportunity to push their skills and careers to the next level as our success stories can document. Developing this final studio and performance space here in the South Shore Centre for the Arts building will open our programming and performance to the community in a whole new way.”
The studio and building has already hosted numerous company rehearsals, larger capacity dance classes, in-studio performances, dance and arts workshop events, and other community arts-related functions.
Our sincere thanks to these wonderful organizations for their generous support!
